Whilst this functionality has existed for a number of releases in Firefox, it is the first time that Microsoft have included this funtctionality in the market leading Internet Explorer.Microsoft have called out that future version of Internet Explorer (such as the version to be released with Windows Vista) will included Tabbed Browsing as standard.It is the first time since the "browsers wars" that Microsoft have been forced to play catch up in terms of features with another internet browsing. Further competition by Firefox will see Microsoft continue to innovate.

According to a monthly Web server survey carried out by Internet services company Netcraft, the Internet has grown by 2.76 million hostnames between June and July 2005. This is the second largest monthly increase recorded by Netcraft, only surpassed by a 3.3 million hostname increase in May 2003 which marked the end of a stagnation phase after the dot com bubble burst.Interestingly, the following growth factors are identified:
