Google Improves Local Search Results

Recently, it appears that Google Maps have enhanced their local search results to display more information about local businesses without having to click on the listing. The enhanced listings now include a thumbnail, an excerpt from the most recent review and a link to post your own review.

Excerpts from reviews have also been added to local search 'OneBoxes' when searching for a local business in the regular Google search engine.

Google pulls business reviews from a range of sites, with some of the major ones being InsiderPages, Yelp and Google's own ratings and review system.

This updated layout means it's even more important for business owners to monitor their local listings and encourage happy customers to post a review. The Google local ranking system looks for the most popular local businesses - so in order to rank well, its important to get your customers active online.
