Google really is the world's biggest search engine! This fact has been further cemented by recent statistics released by ComScore showing that Google commanded 79% of searches across Europe in March 2008.
There seems to be no threat to Google by Yahoo and Microsoft in Europe as they currently hold fourth and fifth place with both only claiming around 2% of market share.
It is interesting to note that there was an increase in share for search engines in the Eastern European markets, which are dominated by non-English language search technology.
Nasza-Klaska.pl and QCL Ricardo, two Polish search engines, have shown considerable growth. Nasza-Klaska.pl held 1.3% of European searches in March, up from 1.1% in February. While QCL Ricardo increased to 1.2% in March.
Jack Flanagan, ComScore Executive Vice President explains further. "With Russia's online population now the fastest growing in Europe, it is likely that some of these local search engines will continue to gain traction and market share."
If you would like to tap into this growing Google dominance in Europe, then Google Advertising might be just the ticket for your website.
