Its official: there was an eruption of search volume last month!
March saw the biggest month-over-month increase in total search volume since July 2007 with total queries increasing over 6% and surpassing the 9 billion mark according to Compete.com.
What is surprising however is that Google was the underperformer this time, with its market share actually dropping by more than 1/2 a percent.
Let's take a look at the stats...
The Verdict is...
MSN appears to be the big winner this month with a market share increase of almost 2% on last month to 10.2% and the really great news is that it's month- over- month volume change has increased a whopping 28.8%. I suppose it begs the questions- will it ever catch up to Google? Well if the folks at Microsoft keep this up, then Google might need to start watching its back.
Ask & AOL round out the top 5 search engine, but both didn't make any ground in March, so continue to hold up the ladder in fourth and fifth spot consecutively.
Then there's Yahoo!... who just can't seem to catch a break, with its market share slipping to a record low of less than 15%. Perhaps a merger with Microsoft will be just what the doctor ordered to turn around this market share decline.
