New Google Gadget Ads - AdSense Gets Interactive

If there's a new way to advertise online, it seems Google will find it and their recently launched Gadget Ads are the latest publishing option for advertisers.

Google Gadgets?
Google Gadgets are interactive applications that can be embedded into web pages in the same vain as widgets. The concept is nothing new with the likes of Yahoo! and Konfabulator offering them for some time.

Google's "Gadget Ads" are widget style HTML based applications that allow flash, video, data feeds and transaction functionality in the ads and will reportedly follow the standard IAB ad size formats.

Initially the beta run of the Google Gadget Ads will be offered to the automotive industry with plans to extend the offer to all ad groups this summer.

WidgetSense, as it's been labeled by Pete Cashmore at Mashable, will be yet another option available in the ever growing range of AdSense media choices, with advertisers bidding to have their widget displayed on publishers sites through CPC and CPM pricing models.

Smart marketers will see this as a chance to provide a useful tool that not only promotes their services or products, but adds value to the user's experience. The caution for publishers is that such interactive advertising will be more of a distraction from your website, so be careful to avoid WidgetSense overkill.
