Amazon A9 Search Cutback

Amazon search engine A9.com has decided to remove some of their most unique features, the company confirmed earlier this month.

"We have discontinued the A9 Instant Reward program, the A9 Toolbar and personalized services such as history, bookmarks, and diary. We have also discontinued A9 Maps and the A9 Yellow Pages (including BlockView)", the company press release said.

BlockView was one of the more popular features amongst users as it provided street based mapping, including real street views, allowing a user to virtually walk down the street.

The cutback is part of Amazon's plans to make it "easier and quicker to find the information you want" on its search engine. The redesign also included a "continuous scrolling" feature so users don't have to use the 'back' and 'next' buttons to see different pages of search results.

Amazon's A9 Search, which was introduced just over two years ago, derives results from Windows Live Search, Amazon.com, Alexa and other relevant sources. However, the site has failed to make a major impact on the search engine industry, with the latest Nielsen//NetRatings putting them outside the top 10.

At 5:43 PM, Anonymous said...: I just recently discovered Amazon Yellow pages, I thought it was great...I went to go use it and now it's gone...I shop on amazon all the time, and I never heard of the yellow pages until about a month ago, and even when I went to go use it, it was hard to find.
