Search Engine Corporate: UK Search Engine Clicks Count for Charity

UK search engine everyclick.com is tapping into the increasing volume of Internet searches for a good cause. Every month, the search engine donates 50% of its gross revenue to charity. Where a part of the revenue generated by clicks on paid search results normally goes to pay-per-click companies like Google AdWords or Yahoo! Search, everyclick.com retains this income and distributes donations to charities on a monthly basis.

In general, donations are evenly distributed amongst listed charities, but users can influence which charity should benefit from their search activity by registering with everyclick.com and selecting specific charities to support. Currently, there are close to 100 charities listed, with a handful having received their first donation collected during the beta test period of the search engine. Overall, searches during beta testing generated nearly Â£1,000 in donations.

The founders, Polly Gowers and Julia Felton, developed the concept for a charity search engine while running their web traffic optimization business. It took them 18 months to get the new search engine up and running, culminating with the official launch of everyclick.com this month.
